Angie (Angel)

On Medical Hold Adoption Pending
Angie-01
  • Racing name:
  • No Race Name
  • Age: 6mo (DOB 08/2020)
  • Sex: Female
  • Cats: Workable
  • Small dogs: Workable
  • Kids: Pending

Angie came to us with severe wounds to her leg after being a puppy and trying to climb under a fence…. the fence won and despite months of excellent veterinary care and bandage changes, the wounds were unable to heal on their own, and they were too substantial for surgical repair. There was also bone involvement which was either infection that spread or fractures that were unable to heal. After multiple consultations, it was in Angie’s best interest to amputate the leg.

Angie is 6 months old and will begin to look for her forever home once fully healed from the amputation and then fully healed from her spay procedure which will happen in a few months. Angie will need another dog at home who has no territorial issues. She enjoys sharing food (right out of the dog bowls!) with her fellow greyhounds in her foster home and playing very rough with them.

We’re requiring a fenced in yard as well. We are unsure about small dogs, but she should be workable with both them and cats. But her people will have to be diligent because she is very excitable.

We are not taking applications or inquiries about Angie’s adoption at this time. We will announce when she is fully healed and ready for her forever home.

Sammy

On Medical Hold
Sammy-01 Sammy-02 Sammy-03
  • Racing name:
  • Windy Sammy
  • Age: 3.5 (DOB 06/20/2017)
  • Sex: Male
  • Cats: Yes
  • Small dogs: Pending
  • Kids: Pending

Sammy broke his hock racing and it was surgically repaired. He has since had the plate removed because the screw came loose and was causing him irritation. Sammy still has a long road to recovery because his cast is beginning to cause major irritation on his leg. He will need daily bandage changes for the next few weeks as we get the wounds to heal.

We also found that Sammy is going blind. His vision is very limited and bright lights bother him. He is most likely going blind due to PRA (progressive retinal atrophy) which cannot be cured or reversed. He will be 100% blind within the next few years. At this time, he navigated extremely well and will adapt to most situations fine. We do request he go to a home with another greyhound as his “seeing eye dog”. He will be able to navigate small staircases, but not flights of stairs.

Sammy is also HUGE! He will get to 80-85lb once his muscle reforms and he gains a little weight. So keep that in mind! But Sammy is a big baby and loves his people. He is a social “bull in a China shop”! He seems to tolerate cats but we have not tested him with small dogs.

Tater Tot

Tater Tot-01 Tater Tot-02
  • Racing name:
  • No Race Name
  • Age: 3 years old in May
  • Sex: Male
  • Cats: Yes
  • Small dogs: Yes
  • Kids: Pending

Meet Tater Tot, who will be joining WAG next month! Tater Tot will turn 3 years old in May, and he never raced. He has mostly only been around females, so he tends to prefer them to males. He is good indoors usually but doesn’t like new situations. He does not like being on a leash so he will need a fenced-in yard, but if he gets out in bigger open fenced areas, he can be hard to catch. He does well with other greyhounds, however, and will follow them.

Tater Tot is very shy and a bit of a spook, so he will need to go to an experienced dog owner with a lot of patience. He will come with a spook harness in addition to the normal collar and leash. Tater Tot should not go to a home with kids as he tends to be afraid of them. He is cat and small dog safe.

Tater Tot has special adoption requirements and there will be no exceptions to these requirements. He needs to go to a home with another confident greyhound, a seasoned greyhound adopter and a fenced in yard. Given his personality, these elements will help create the best environment for Tater Tot to blossom into a more confident boy!

He will be joining us soon.

Avery

Avery-01 Avery-02
  • Racing name:
  • Avery Odell
  • Age: 8.5 (DOB 10/7/2012)
  • Sex: Female
  • Cats: No
  • Small dogs: No
  • Kids: Pending

Avery is a sweet, 8.5 year old brood mama. She was returned to her adoption group due to needing a better-suited home environment, but Avery’s adoption group needed help finding the right home and WAG is up to the task!

The ideal home for Avery would be one with no other animals– she does not always get along with other animals and prefers to have her people all to herself. She also seems to have some arthritis, so a home with few or no stairs would be best.

Avery does not need to be crated or muzzled at all if she is going to be an only dog, as she has never had an accident in the house. If she goes to a home with a fenced yard, Avery needs to be watched as she likes to eat dirt.

Avery should do fine leash walking, although her family will need to be aware if there are other dogs around, especially small dogs. Due to her attitude towards other dogs, Avery should never be brought to a dog park under any circumstances.

Avery is a super sweet girl and loves having humans all to herself– we hear she even gives lots of hugs and kisses!
