Sammy

Sammy-01 Sammy-02 Sammy-03
  • Racing name:
  • Windy Sammy
  • Age: 4 (DOB 06/20/2017)
  • Sex: Male
  • Cats: No
  • Small dogs: Selective– see bio**
  • Kids: 12+

Sammy broke his hock racing and it was surgically repaired. He has been on a recovery rollercoaster ever since, but he is finally healing nicely!! He is no longer on pain medication and does not require any further treatment, although it is recommended that he have x-rays done to recheck his leg in about six months just to monitor the healing process.

While he heals, it is recommended that he continue to wear his brace for strenuous exercises. We can loan out the brace he currently wears with a $200 deposit; we were fortunate enough to receive one to use and we would like to return it to the hospital so that they can help others like they helped Sammy!

We also found that Sammy is going blind. His vision is limited and bright lights bother him. He is most likely going blind due to PRA (progressive retinal atrophy) which cannot be cured or reversed. He will eventually go blind, so we are hoping to find him the perfect home before that happens so that he will adjust well to that environment. Sammy should go to a home with a “seeing eye grey,” but is fine on or off leash– he does love to play off lead in a yard with toys. He will be able to navigate small staircases, but not flights of stairs.

Sammy is also HUGE– he is over 80lbs and is a very tall boy! But he is a big baby and loves his people. He has a pretty high amount of energy and would benefit from daily, focused exercise; he would most likely knock young kids over. **Sammy is great with other greyhounds, but is picky about other dog breeds, so introductions are required with other breeds. Sammy should probably also go to a cat-free home.

Cain

Cain-01 Cain-02
  • Racing name:
  • No Race Name
  • Age: 10 months
  • Sex: Male
  • Cats: Workable
  • Small dogs: Yes
  • Kids: Pending

Cain is a happy, sweet, silly, 10-month-old boy! He loves people and gives kisses as soon as he meets you!

Cain has conquered the stairs in his foster home, and he LOVES laying and rolling in the grass! He is fine with small dogs and is cat workable, especially with a cat that sets boundaries right away. He is young and playful, and is working on things like crate and leash manners in his foster home.

Cain might be ok as an only dog with work and patience, but would also do well with another dog in the house.

Cain has a hyperextended front right wrist; he compensates by walking with a slight limp, but he is not in pain from it and gets around just fine otherwise! He is a happy, healthy young boy!

  • Small dogs: Yes

Lily is 11 months old and a shy little girl! She does not love the leash but is working on practicing her leash manners with her foster mom.

She has been a little hesitant in most situations since arriving in Connecticut, but she is slowly opening up, getting more comfortable, and showing glimpses into her puppy personality! Lily is doing great with her foster siblings, including some small dogs!
